Veterans Therapy Ride and Poker Run

AmpSurf Veteran’s Therapy Ride and Poker Run
29 July 2017

AmpSurf will be conducting a Veteran’s Therapeutic Ride and Poker Run on 29 July 2017 in partnership with the Arroyo Grande Rotary Club’s Harley Raffle. All veterans are welcome to ride for free; this includes Breakfast and a shirt. The Vet’s Therapeutic Ride will follow the same route as the Poker Run, however if the Vet wishes to participate in the Poker Run and build a poker hand along the run, he or she must pay the same fees as the general public.

The ride will start at the Arroyo Grande American Legion Hall at 417 Orchard Avenue, Arroyo Grande, CA 93420.  Onsite signups start at 07:30 with the first bike out at 09:00 after the safety briefing and route updates.  The cost is $45 per rider and $70 for doubles.  The price includes a pancake breakfast and a shirt for the first 150 riders (we will have 25 ladies tank-tops).  Register below to ensure that you will receive a poker run shirt.

Please complete your donation in the amount of $45 for a single rider or $70 for double riders after you submit your form. Those with a double rider and or Veterans Therapy riders will be contacted for shirt size after the form has been submitted.
Sign up now via PayPal and we’ll have your event shirt waiting!

Poker Run Particulars:

All riders participating in the poker run will receive a scorecard at registration and then will draw a playing card out of a paper bag and we will record the card on the rider’s scorecard.  The rider will not take the playing cards with them; the cards are returned to the bag so that the next rider has a chance to draw from a full deck.  If we have a tie for the best hand, the rider will draw a card from the bag again at the finish and the high card will win the pot.  If we have ties for low hand we will put the scorecards in a bag and draw the winner’s scorecard since it would be very difficult to determine the lowest hand.  The $400 jackpot will be a high/low prize.  In other words, the best hand will win $250 and the worst hand $150, so no one will be completely out of the race to win some money.
The route (which may vary a little at the time of the ride), will travel from the AG American Legion Hall to Mongo’s Saloon, then on to the American Legion Hall in old Orcutt, then we ride to Tres Hermanas Winery, then on to the Figueroa Mountain Brewery via the backroads as much as we can.  The next stop will be the Twisted Shamrock in Lompoc via Santa Rosa Road, and then we will ride over Harris Grade Road to head back to Santa Maria Harley Davidson to finish the ride.  The ride covers 125 miles and shouldn’t take more than four and a half hours to complete.  AmpSurf will also be providing a chase vehicle equipped with a trailer and straps for any bike that has mechanical issues and cannot complete the ride.  We will also have additional 5 to 10 gallons of fuel on hand should the need arise.  We will also travel the entire route the day before the event to ensure that the road conditions are suitable for a safe ride.  AmpSurf will remove or clean all road debris at this time and mark the route with dayglow orange road signs at critical road junctions in order to ensure ease of navigation.
All riders must be back at Santa Maria Harley Davidson no later than 14:00 (2:00 p.m.) in order to turn in your scorecard for the poker run.  No scorecards will be accepted after that.
There will be a beer garden and food vendors back at H.D. of Santa Maria as well as the Cliff Notes providing the music. Many more prizes will be available besides the raffle for the 2017 Harley Davidson Road Glide Special and the Poker run prizes. We will be having second place raffle prize of a week in Las Vegas, a 50/50 drawing and many other raffle prizes. A good time will be had by all, but some a little more, obviously if you are the Harley winner.
The bottom line is that we at AmpSurf want you to have fun and to give the riders a great ride and enjoy our beautiful central coast and not to worry about anything.

We are very thankful that you have hopefully chosen to join our ride, and we want you to know that all proceeds go directly to support AmpSurf operations, and we appreciate any feedback regarding this event so that we can continue to improve and grow this event.

Respectfully yours,
