Sunday Sept. 11th marks the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States. The Sierra club, AmpSurf, Access Surf Hawaii, The Blind Veterans of America and several other organizations from around the country are putting together the 1st annual Paddle Out For Heroes on Sept. 11th 2011. We are asking all Surf clubs, organizations and anyone else out there to help us honor America’s heroes who lost their lives that day and to honor all those who have given their lives or suffered since the war on terror began by being a part of the Paddle Out for Heroes.
Please know if you don’t live near the ocean or don’t have a surf board you can still be a part of this nationwide event. Grab a kayak, a Stand up paddle board, a canoe or whatever and paddle out. If you live inland get a group together and go out on a lake. The goal is to bring the country together and remember all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
Here in Pismo Beach, CA we will paddle out at 6:45am on the South Side of the Pismo Beach pier and observe a moment of silence and reflection at 7:03:11PST (This is the time of the last plane went down on September 11th 2001). Please arrive early (6:00am) to suit up and get ready. After the paddle out we will have breakfast and share about what the day means to all of us. No sign ups, just show up!
If you would like to help support this event and others like it please go to our donate page and help us in supporting Americas heroes and those with disabiliites.
