Moondoggies invitational 2003
On a nasty day a great group of dedicated surfers came together on the south side of the Pismo Beach pier for a weekend of surfing fun. Ampsurf showed up early on Saturday, pitched our tent and prepared for the day. We brought with us some donated coffee from Starbucks, cases of water, and some pastries to help warm up and fuel all of the competitors. Ron John Rodney, and I all decided to compete in the Men’s longboard heat and Rodney made it to the finals in that division. I ended up getting munched in the Pylons of the pier, which did substantial damage to the left rail of my Stewart. I rode my Royal Hawaiian the rest of the day, but due to some very large waves that I am not ready for yet and my foot shell falling off (which did eventually wash-up on shore) I was not able to finish the heat. Rodney Roller, John Taylor and Ron Warren all did very well in the prosthetics division Rodney took First place John second, and Ron third. This was the first year that Moondoggies ran a prosthetics division and the response from the other competitors and the fans was great. We are hoping that we will be invited back again next year to compete in the great competition.
